Anchor Your Look: How to Style Nautical Jewelry for Your Wedding Day

Nautical themes are timeless, romantic, and perfect for destination, beach, or seaside weddings.

Many couples love the theme but aren't sure how to incorporate it elegantly without looking costume-y. Nautical jewelry is the perfect, subtle, sophisticated answer.

This post will guide you through selecting the right pieces and styling them for the bride, groom, and wedding party.

For the Bride: Elegant & Understated

  • Rule #1: Focus on Quality & Materials:

    • Metals: Opt for white gold, platinum, or sterling silver for a crisp, clean, elegant look that mimics the ocean's light.

    • Gems: Choose pearls (classic, sea-inspired), blue sapphires (for a "something blue" anchor), or even aquamarine.

  • Style Tips for the Bride:

    • The Single Statement Piece: If your dress features a simple neckline, a delicate anchor pendant or a ship's wheel necklace can be a stunning addition.

    • Subtle Sparkle: Skip the heavy gold chains. Go for small stud earrings shaped like knots or shells, or a thin bracelet with a single nautical charm.

    • Hair Accessories: A small, elegant starfish or shell hairpin tucked into an updo is often more effective than a necklace.

For the Groom: Dapper & Distinguished

  • Rule #2: It's All in the Details: Nautical style for men should be minimalist and high-quality.

  • Style Tips for the Groom:

    • Cufflinks: This is the perfect place for the theme. Choose compass, anchor, or rope knot cufflinks. These are elegant and easily removed after the wedding.

    • Tie Clip/Bar: A simple, silver or gold rope-style tie bar or one shaped like a tiny oar.

    • Watch: A classic dive watch with a crisp blue face and a stainless steel band can complement the theme perfectly.

For the Wedding Party: Cohesive & Charming

  • Rule # 3: Use it as a Unifying Gift: Nautical jewelry makes a beautiful and practical gift for bridesmaids and groomsmen, serving as their wedding accessory.

  • Bridesmaids:

    • Matching Simplicity: Keep it uniform. Consider matching delicate knot earrings or a simple wave pendant necklace in a uniform metal (e.g., rose gold for a warmer, sunset feel, or silver for a classic, navy look).

    • Color Harmony: If the dresses are navy or dusty blue, a simple silver charm looks incredibly chic.

  • Groomsmen:

    • Matching Lapel Pins: A small, uniform brass anchor or compass lapel pin instead of a boutonniere.

    • Pocket Squares: A fun alternative is a gift of a nautical-patterned pocket square (stripes, small anchors) paired with simple, quality accessories.

Hector Sanchez
Aumaris original Nautical Jewelry is handcrafted with a natural approach to jewelry design, to ensure each piece is environmentally friendly, socially responsible and unique.
Hector Sanchez was born, the second child of a master jeweler. He is the one to inherit a legacy of jewelry craftsmanship that spanned three generations. Like his father before him, Hector enjoys the art of jewelry making.
At the age of 16, Hector embarked on an apprenticeship under his father, who taught him the jeweler’s art along with family honored techniques Hector still employs to this day. The rigors of his father’s strict training forged both masterful design skills and an uncompromising work ethic rooted in hard work, perseverance and love for his craft.

Hector moved to California and worked for eight years in the Los Angeles jewelry district, where he fine-tuned his skills. It was here in the City of Angels that he met sailor and entrepreneur, Bob Bitchin.
Bob shared with Hector his frustration with finding an artist who could bring his vision of a hefty sailor gold bracelet to life (Bob is 6'4"). Hector volunteered to give it a try. He did, and Bob loved it. So much so that in 1990 he joined forces with Hector to start a nautical jewelry business, and together they created among others the original Turks-Head Comfort Rings. After a few years, Bob decided to cast off and sail into the sunset, while Hector continued designing unique fine nautical jewelry.
To this day Hector continues to work on new designs from his studio in Hawaii, creating some of the most beautiful enduring jewelry designs with his wife Chris; the love of his life.
